Meet the Founder

Hello! I'm Laken Blanford—founder of The Resilience Project.

I started this organization because I know what it feels like to be scared, to feel broken, and to wonder if things will ever feel normal again. After experiencing two traumatic events as a kid, a home invasion and a dog attack, I struggled with anxiety and fear. But I found healing through dance—through movement, creativity, and connection. It gave me back my confidence and reminded me that my story didn’t have to end with what happened to me.

What also shaped me was the example set by my parents. They’ve spent their lives working to change the lives of kids in our community—as educators, mental health therapists, and the founders of childcare centers, preschools, and mental health clinics that serve children and families. Through their work, they’ve shown me that the greatest investment we can make is in the future—and that future is our children.

I realized that not every child has access to healing spaces like I did. That’s why I created The Resilience Project—to help kids just like me grow, heal, and thrive through sports, the arts, nature, and mentorship.

Whether you're here to donate, volunteer, or just learn more—thank you. You're helping kids discover their strength, find their voice, and believe in a brighter future.

With gratitude,
Laken Blanford
